Withdraw from a semester during COVID as international student

I withdrawed the whole Summer 2020(withdraw all courses taken) during the later half and filed a petition to my school to withdraw the semester.

During Fall 2020 term, I was able to make progress towards my degree(got good standing). Currently I need to apply to extend my student visa, I am worried that as an international student, withdraw a semster would make it difficult to apply for visa extension. Could anyone with similar situation share some insights?

I also did the same i.e. withdrawing from Summer term and now planning to apply for extension.....but in my case, I am applying from my home country

You can't extend from your home country, if IRCC finds out you are not in Canada you will be in trouble.

You will need to explain why you withdrew and if the reasons suffice then they may extend your permit given all the factors satifactory
