With work permit/visa but quit my job

I currently hold a work permit and valid tourist visa that both expire in 2011. However, I quit my job early this year. My husband and I are in the process of preparing our Sponsorship Application. My husband is a permanent resident. We're submitting the application end of this month.

Given my status...no job but with work permit/visa, can I go in and out of Canada just to go to the States? Will that affect our application? Will the immigration close in on this detail when they find out that I've gone in and out of the country using my work visa and I've got no job anymore? After we got married in May of this year, we immediately went to NYC for a quick getaway. And during that time, I was already unemployed.

Hope you can help!

Yes you can go in and out of Canada with a valid work permit/temporary resident visa even if you are not employed anymore. You can stay in Canada as long as your work permit is valid.

If it is an inland application then you cannot leave Canada as you need to be resident in Canada. If it is an outland application then I suppose you can leave/return Canada and it will not effect your application.
