with imm1442B do i still need a visa to travel from canada

Hello all,

I came to Canada by Visitor Visa, which got expired. Then I applied for an extension and they sent me IMM1442B "Visitor record" which states that I can stay in Canada till 2018. There is also a mark on this document that "This does not authorize re-entry".

My question is: do I need a visa or some other document issued by CIC to travel outside Canada (to Europe)? Originally I am from Ukraine, so we usually need visas to come to Canada. I am just confused because Visitor Record seems not allowing re-entry.

PS. I also applied for PR through sponsorship your spouse program and we are waiting for the decision which can take up to 26 months.

Your TRV expired.
You got an extension to your visitor status.
This extension will be void once you leave Canada.
You need a valid TRV to re-enter Canada.

Thank you, so I need to apply for visa as well before leaving Canada, correct? Because when I will come back I will not have anymore valid TRV to show and enter the country.

This depends on your travel plans. You need a valid TRV when you come back to Canada, when or where you apply for it, is up to you.

Does anyone know by any chance how to apply for the visa if I already have the visitor record? Because I applied for visa, paid the fee and they sent me visitor record with no "re-entry" instead.
Should I pay and apply for the same thing once again?

You didn't apply for a visa. You applied to extend your visitor status. Why would you apply for the same thing that you already have?

You need to apply for a TRV.

Because when I applied online there was no difference in applying for visa or visitor record, I thought I was applying for visa. I just needed to reply bunch of questions and at the end it gave me the list of documents and forms that I needed to upload and the fee that I needed to pay.

Right now I just tried to follow all steps online to apply for visa and it gave me exactly the same set of documents that I had previously. And I have to pay again for the same service which I already paid for. How can I know that this time they will not send me the visitor record once again.

That's because as a visitor, you can't apply for a TRV from within Canada.

With an inland app in process, you should not leave Canada without a valid TRV. If your TRV is refused while you are out of Canada, your inland app will be considered abandoned.
