Besides, Japan is not a immigrate country. They do offer immigration stream, but they encourage people to naturalize as soon as possible and they do not recognize dual nationality. So there is no middle ground here. Japan government even force foreigners to use a Japnese name during the naturalization process. Can you imagine US or Canadian immigration authorities reject you because you refused to change your first name to an Anglo-English one?
Moreover, Japan is not known for its tolerance for foreigners. Even Japanese decedent from South America found certain difficulties integrated into the society, let along the true foreigners.
I always think US and Canada are the two most multicultural countries in the world. Even compared to Australia and New Zealand, North American countries have a much higher tolerance for aliens.
