Canada! Canada!

A dream come true to be here, however, in this season (Winter) its really making me think twice.. Winter here is terrible! very cold, walk way is slippery (I even fell down myself), difficult to go to work due to heavy snow, very expensive snow apparel and very costly living..you need to store lots of food because its difficult to walk to the grocery store (of not having a car). If Only.... I wouldnt be here.. I shouldnt feel "SAD" and "HOMESICK" all the time. Believe me guys, it isnt easy to be in CANADA! specially if you are alone..Filipinos too here are different...cannot be trusted and unfriendly society..think twice and be smart...goodluck guys!

in my own opinion i believer it is always pros and cons...if you don't mind where you at and what you are into? please share and hopefully you will find your truly called "home" away from home and a comfortable place under the sun...

i agree with your point of view.

give it a chance!

your comment:
" Filipinos too here are different...cannot be trusted and unfriendly society..think twice and be smart" -
maybe true with the ones you've met but maybe they are just like you too- feeling alone and lonely. You have to try to reach out and be a friend, then maybe you will see them in a different light.

Be positive!! even if the worst of winter comes- there are still good reasons to be in Canada! try tobogganing for one- it's lots of fun! :) :D

You do realize it's not really winter here yet - yes? It's going to get a lot colder.

@cherry
I agree with you about winter especially when you come to a place where its hot like the Philippines. Winter clothings are expensive but you need it. Its not really easy to live in Canada. Lots of adjustment especially to their weather but in Canada there is lots of opportunity.
just one question, are you Filipino?
because about your comment that Filipinos are not friendly and you can not trust them is not a 100 % true.
I am a filipino myself, my friend who are filipinos are friendly and trustworthy. There are some that are not but its not all.
also its not just Filipino who might be unfriendly or not trustworthy because I believe some races have that too.od
It is just depend on the person itself.
Hope you can find someone who is friendly and trustworthy.
Good luck and hope you can adjust here in Canada

@cherry,

many of our kababayans are aspiring to come to work and probably stay in Canada. you are very lucky to have attained your place....cold weather is nothing, juan de la cruz can adapt and survive just to send money back home. there will always be pros and cons in everything...you cannot have all the things you desire...canada is great...but there is a a price to pay.....i.e. adopting and surviving the cold weather.....a normal phenomenon in canada

All the Pinoy I know in Calgary are great.

Invest in good winter gear. Yes it's expensive, but it will last a decade or more. Some places even have cold ratings on their items. You can get boots with safety slip grip. (Mine were regularly $120 and I paid $80 on sale during November. They were worn heavily last winter and show almost no wear, plus they're warm and comfy!) Winter is long and dreary, but believe me, after wintering near the Great Lakes, Calgary is awesome.

Cherry have realistic points. Bottom line: You won't get bed of roses all the time. But always be grateful. Keweenoy pointed out hat there a lot of people who are aspiring to go to Canada.

Don't generalized Filipinos as amikety and eilahs23 is saying. But to be fair with Cherry, maybe only Filipinos on her neighbourhood (or the ones she knows) can't be trusted.

It's really difficult to be alone. Try to reach out. There are a lot of Filipino communities/centers (I'm not familiar with your area) that you can go to and help you minimize your sadness of being home sick. It is also a good opportunity to find people you can trust.

Being alone and dreading the winter is not a good combination.

dont ever complain about canada becoz in the first place nobody asked you to come here....and anyway canada is known for its cold weather and this is not a tropical country so deal with it...about filipino that you are saying that they are different,,i dont think that is true....all my circle of friends here are filipino and we do have lots of fun,we go out during winter and live like a normal life...i hope you will find to appreciate hoe nice to live in canada and be able to find a good freind here in canada because its true that its sad here esp during winter that you cant go out esp if you dont have a car..best of luck to you...

every pinoy who went to canada knows that the weather in canada is cold freezing especially in winter.......it is located in north america near the north pole whereas the phils is located in the equator so the climate is tropical.....therefore if you go to canada DONT EXPECT to have a tropical climate !!!! .... if i am on your shoes i will just think of the money i send home to my love ones....just my 2 cents....i have not been to canada by the way and i plan to go there in the future....goodluck

Every country has its pros and cos. We all are in this forum becoz, we love Canada and one day we want to be there. :)

yeah Rajaryan .. you are right .. nothing perfect

Indeed to all! Maybe you weren't "happy" at home, and you are apparently not "happy" here. Perhaps you're looking in the wrong place. Happiness comes from "within", part of making the best and being positive about where you are, what you have, etc. (Trustworthiness or NOT SO, is not partial to race or culture.)
