You have to surrender the PR card at the oath ceremony. You can't keep it after taking the oath....Also do they destroy the PR Cards? As I am traveling to US that afternoon and will need the card on my way back.

The Ceremony takes approx 2-3 hours. Yes, they take your PR card, and you have to wait 48 hours to apply for a passport. I don't think travel is gonna be possible for you for a least a few days...Also do they destroy the PR Cards? As I am traveling to US that afternoon and will need the card on my way back.
If you are driving across the border you may be ok. Call and ask. If you are flying you NEED a passport.So how can I travel to US without a PR Card for my return?
