In 2010, my husband was in Canada as a visa-exempt visitor. He stayed from May 2010-February 2011. Prior to the six months ending he applied to extend his stay as a visitor to 9 months (he even had a return flight already booked). However, a decision was not made by February 2011 and he just went back home.
We are just working on IMM 5710 - Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay or Remain in Canada as Worker for Open Work Permit and it asks the question
"Have you ever remained beyond the validity of your status, attended school without authorization or worked without authorization in Canada?"
Would we mark "yes" here? He was under the impression that he was permitted to stay at least until a decision had been made on his extension that time...
any info is appreciated! hoping this does not impact our application negatively
