Hi everyone!

Just wondering I have applied for the recently released IEC visas, on my " final time" and while have been waiting for that have been putting together a common law PR application .

If i submit the PR before i get the IEC visa could the PR application void or affect the IEC VISA application.?? I guess the question is does a new Application cancel a previous application??

thanks and look forward to hearing from you

I don't know about zero effect...

I've read that if you are currently on a visa (as in IEC working holiday) and you apply for another it will cancel your current one. But the big question is WHEN? When they receive your application, when the start the first phase of processing, or when they actually grant you the PR visa? My logic would guess actual granting of the new visa.

I would imagine your IEC essentially becomes your OWP (open work permit) that they are piloting right now with the PR visas, ya?

Applying for PR will not cancel any temporary visas you may have. Being granted PR will.

If you apply inland (which you really shouldn't), and apply for an OWP through the pilot program, your OWP would override your IEC permit.

IEC is a work permit, not a visa. A visa, actually called a TRV, does not grant status in Canada; it merely allows a person to board a commercial carrier to travel to Canada. Applying for a change in status does not cancel one's current status, nor does applying for PR.

When a PR app is approved, this has no effect on an applicant's current status if they are in Canada. Once they actually land, their temporary status is cancelled because they are now a PR.

Also, an IEC work permit cannot "become" a pilot OWP. An IEC holder who applies inland can submit an OWP app but this will be a completely separate work permit from the IEC.

So as I said, the PR app and IEC app will have zero effect on each other.
