Dear All

I studied and worked in the US till July 2000, after which I left and came back to my home country Pakistan. Before leaving I applied for FBI finger print clearance. I received that later showing a date of October 2000.

I had left US well before that date and have never been to US since then.

Will this clearance work or do I need to get a Current clearance from FBI ?

Thanks

All PCC's and FBI reports valid only for 6months of issue date.

Unfortunately, your police certificate can't be over 3 months old when you submit it to the CIO. After that it will be valid for 12 months so the visa office could ask for another one if your application is still in process in a year. The good news is that the rules have recently changed back to allow you to submit your application without the police clearance as long as you are ready to submit it when asked so this doesn't need to represent a huge delay.

"Note: If you are including your police certificates with your application to the CIO, please ensure that your certificates were not issued more than three months earlier. Police certificates are generally valid for 12 months from the date they are issued. However, if a final decision is not made on your application before the expiry of your police certificate, the visa office may request that you provide a new one." Dear All

Thanks a lot for your responses, however I am still not clear on this

I received a letter from VO which had the details of materials required.

In the section for POLICE CERTIFICATES, it says that

" Police certificates must cover the entire length of time you have lived in a country. Police Certificates for your current country of residence should not be 3 months old"

This language seems to imply that for the current country of residence the certificate should not be older than 3 months, but for countries resided in the past -- this condition does not apply . . .

If I am to follow the instructions in this letter what conclusion can i draw ?

Thanks

Salmannavid you should send your current country's police certificate and send the old FBI clearance certificate - in the meantime also apply for a FBI clearance if the assessing officer accepts your old FBI certificate then you are good to go but if not then you would have saved some time in applying for FBI clearance certificate - from my personal experience you can expect the certificate in 8 -12 weeks. In any case do not delay in applying for FBI clearance certificate no matter if you plan on sending the old one.

Your 10 year old FBI PCC won't be accepted for sure.
- One you can apply for FBI
- Second, you can apply to each State in USA where you have lived. .e.g. I lived in PA, NJ, MA so I sent PCC from these states along with FBI. But seniors may correct me, if that is actually needed or not.

each state over 6months you stayed then you need DOJ certificate of each state, it will be possible to apply at nearest police station live scan or private agency will do.
I lived TX 2months never submit for TX, California 1year 3months I submitted DOJ calif certificate, NY 8months DOJ certi submitted.
I get updated that PCC and FBI only valid for 1year thats good...

himanshu2277 is correct, each state DOJ (Department of Justice) certificate you will get from all live scan center or nearest your police station, but all police station are not have live scan facility, I went 20miles far for my and my wife live scan for California DOJ, beacause my nearest police station dont have any finger print manual or live scan facility. even himanshu2277 is true that you have to apply when you stayed over 6months in the USA's each state, if you stayed few months then its ok you dont have to apply for DOJ. I stayed some months in nevada, Washington but I submitted only for california only becasue nevada and washington I stayed less than 6months only.
