Will ohip hamper my chances of sponsoring my spouse?

Im a canadian citizen living abroad with my husband whom im now sponsoring.

I had visited canada for a month a couple of years back and got my OHIP made. I have been living in Pakistan ever since. I now understand that OHIP is only for residents. I only stayed a month. Will i run into trouble because of this OHIP while sponsoring my spouse fom outside canada. I have never used this OHIP card to avail any benefits.

Should i get it closed?

This wont be a problem. You will obviously not have any OHIP coverage and I take it you have been away for a while.

"You may be temporarily outside of Canada for a total of 212 days in any 12 month period and still maintain your OHIP coverage as long as your primary place of residence is still in Ontario. However, the ministry does have extended absence provisions which are outlined below."

I think it wasnt right for me to apply for this health insurqnce card to begin with since i was only visiting canada (visited 3 years back) and have been living in Pakistan for 14 years.

Anyways, no trouble is good news.

you will still have to detail how you plan to stay in canada, like job prospects and accommodation, once you get the residency. since you haven't really stayed in canada much, you may need a strong argument on that front.

I completely agree with chakrab.

Screenager you have to build a strong case showing how you plan to support your partner plus the biggest point being how you both plan to come back and establish your lives here. This is the most important criteria for citizens who are and have lived outside the country.

Screenager you have to build a strong case showing how you plan to support your partner plus the biggest point being how you both plan to come back and establish your lives here. This is the most important criteria for citizens who are and have lived outside the country.

Problem:
(we dont have any of the things mentioned)
Job Offer in Canada - NOT AVAILABLE
Employment Contract in Canada - NOT AVAILABLE
Letter of acceptance by an education institution - NOT AVAIALABLE
Property Rental agreement - NOT AVAILABLE
Property Deed - Not AVAILABLE
Mortgage on Property - NOT AVAILABLE
OTHER: We can however produce letters from sponsor's sister that they are willing to help us out begin a new life in Canada and we can stay with them till we find our own place, we can produce Sponsor's SIN card, OHIP, Bank account Openeing letter all of which i did during her recent trip to Canada (3 yrs back). Can these things be sufficient for CIC to declare the sponsor as eligible to sponsor her spouse in your opinion?

If not, what else to include. Im a stay-at-home mom, and my husband (who's being sponsored) supports me and our son. Give me some practical pointers as to what should we include to make our case strong as regards proof of intent.

I have seen notarized letters from family stating they will support you until your husband can find a job work on more that one thread in this forum. If CIC is not satisfied, they won't reject you immediately, they will ask for further proof, and you can work on producing that.

Its usually the sponsor who have to prove their ties back to Canada and how they plan to support the family and that is because when you submit the forms you sign a document that you plan to do so and support them for 2 years.
