Will my wife's drivers license issued in another country be valid in Canada?

My wife is moving from Bosnia to Canada (Vancouver) under the Family Class; I am sponsoring her.

One question I had is about her driving license, currently she has a valid drivers license in Bosnia that permits her to drive in Europe, will this be valid for Canada/Vancouver (ICBC)?

Will she just have to "convert" this to a BC license or does she have to do the road test, new drivers, etc. all over again?

She can drive with her Bosnian licence for 90 days. In order to get a BC licence, she will have to pass both a knowledge test and a road test.

I advise you to tell your wife to go to BIHAMK, bring her driver's license, 30KM (I think) and 2 photos, and get international drivers license. All the info is on the BIHAMK web site. Because Bosnian license is not fully in English, she needs to have the translation from BIHAMK.

But, as the others mentioned, it will be valid for only 90 days, and then she needs to get a BC license.

It is smart to get "driving record" from Bosnia to be able to just "convert" Bosnian license into BC one, but I am not sure how or where in BiH to get this. If you do learn how, please let me know in a message, because I am too moving from BiH to Vancouver

Check the link techy86 posted. If she (and me also) cannot prove 2 years of driving experience, the it is necessary to go through the whole 3-year process of obtaining a BC license, as if she never had one :S

Bosnia is not one of the "reciprocal" countries qualified under BC driver licence exchange.

You can still apply for BC driver licence but need to take a knowledge and road test. You need to prove 2 years of driving experience in order to avoid getting put in the graduate licensing program.
