Hi, I just want to know if I will lose my PR status if I don’t comply to the tax obligations? (i.e. rental income of previous years)
Can I still retain my PR status and be eligible for renewal if I have not filed taxes or have not paid taxes that I owe?
Are there any implications?
Thanks!

IT IS NOT A LEGAL ADVICE.

Tax evasion is a criminal offense. However, it will only affect your PR renewal if you have been convicted by the CRA for criminal offense or have an open criminal investigation against you. I think it is one of the questions in the PR renewal form

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply.
The thing is I’ve never received any tax slips from the CRA before. So I’m wondering if I actually do owe anything taxes at all.

Tax slips are given by your employer. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-ag...return/completing-a-tax-return/tax-slips.html

Did you work? Did you earn? If so then you should file tax return after which CRA has a chance to tell if you owe taxes. Without filing tax return how can you expect CRA to send you tax bill?

Yes, for renewal they are asking our consent to fetch tax records from CRA.

you will not loose PR just because of tax problems (even if evasion or fraud is included). However you may have problems:
1. Of course with CRA which can lead to further problem with criminal law
2. later on you can get problem with citizenship.
However lot of can be fixed as long as you do cooperate.
