HI!

I appreciate that you are reading this post at the moment!

Situation.
I have been in Canada for 1 year and 7 month on study permit and it expires on march 2010. Currently, I am a student in Hospitality school on diploma program. I will do co-op in this summer(2009) for four month and finish my studies on February 2010, so I will be looking for a job at that time. PR status will help me a lot to achieve my goals. And what i have heard, while the PR status in process I can get the work permit.

What happened.
I fall in love with a Japanese girl, and she has a PR status for over then 5 years already. She is 28, and I am 20. I truly believe, that she is the one ! We've been dating for 2 month, and last month we just started leaving together. Everything is working out, really well. We love each other, and we decide to marry.

Reasons to marry.
I lOVE HER!
I want to get PR asap! so that i will be able to make some money for our leaving.

I have a few questions.

Questions
1.Will it work out if the age gap is 8 years?
2.Can i get Pr by marrying her, if she is PR as well?
3.What does it take to be able to get Pr by marrying?
4.How long will it take, to get open working permit while PR is in the process?
5.How long will it take to get PR?

1. Immigration is a little more suspicious of relationships with a large age gap but if you send some proof of your relationship being real, proof of you dating and living together, joint lease, bills, bank account etc. that will help convince them.

2. She needs to sponsor you for PR. Go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp and read about it.

3. You have to prove that your marriage is real and also there are some requirements to your sponsor like not being on social assistance etc.

4. If you choose the inland application, you apply for a work permit at the same time you send in your sponsorship application, it takes officially around 6 months to get first stage approval and work permit.

5. With an inland application, you could have PR in 12-18 months. It is not advised for you to travel while the file is being processed. If you choose the outland application, you will not get a work permit but you will get PR faster. You can either choose to have it processed in your home country or since you are legally in Canada you can have it processed in the US. The outland first takes a month to approve sponsorship and then as shown here depending on country: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp Processed in the US, it would take on average 5 months. For your homeland, you'd have to look at the list.

You are an international student. Get a job and then Apply for the provincial nominee program. It would be faster and you would feel like you are working on your feet not relying on anyone else (feel like a man and that is something to be proud of).

If you are an international graduate and unable to find a job in Canada then getting married to get your PR seems to be the only choice (not recommended though)........if you really love her and she does the same to you then its great.............otherwise, you and she will be stuck in unhappy, unfair and parasite marriage. PR card does not assure you would find a job

You are only 20 years old and there are plenty of opportunities for you.........don't get married because of a PR card, you will regret it. Go for true love, live independently and achieve goals on your own.

Hi Antoli, I came across your post, and if you truly are in love and seperate to that you also wish to Immigrate to Canada Permanently and you cannot find an independent means of doing so, without getting Married, then by all means go for it as long as you other half feels the same. just make sure its what you want. or it could be a big mistake a few years on.

That said if you are still intent on doing so. you case will more than likely encounter difficulties if you did not know each other atleast 6 months prior to getting Married and submitting an application.
you will also be required to prove how long your relationship has been going on.
As much as you both maybe in Love Citizen Immigration dont know this.
so the burden of the proof still lies with you both.

So My suggestion to you is take the next 6 months atleast, and see if you both still feel like tying the knot. and if you do, then you would have been able to gather some proof of your relationship over this time, and you should be ok to then go for it.

Hope this helps
