Will I be allowed to come back to Canada?

I am working in Canada (with a PGWP), my wife has an open work permit (no job) and we have two kids who are Canadian. We want to go for vacation for a month. I called Air Canada and they said that we will be allowed back in Canada becuase we have works permits. Is there a way to 100% confirm that we will be allowed?

As above you need to ensure you carry any documents with you such as proof of job, residence and so on. It is not just about getting through the POE on the return but also convincing the airline checkin that you may be exempt from travel restrictions. Also you need to be prepared for all of you to have a 14 day mandatory isolation plan on return to Canada.

In reality to be honest not really a good time to go on vacation during a pandemic given travel restrictions are changing all the time and there is always the possiblity you could end up stuck in another country for a while unable to travel back. This is why the Canadian government advises all residents against any travel outside of the country unless absolutely necessary which generally would put a vacation in non essential travel category even though anyone can leave the country whenever they want regardless

Ultimatey decision is yours and above just my personal view and interpretation, the official guidance for temp residents with a work permit to travel back to Canada below

There are no guarantees that you and your spouse will be able to reenter Canada. Your Canadian children won't have a prooblem reentering. The pandemic is a very fluid situation so rules can change at any point. Currently if you can prove that you are working you shouldn't have a problem but your spouse without employment could have issues. Nobody should be travelling unless it is for essential purposes.

I would say that it's not really a good idea for temporary residents to be leaving Canada now because the travel exemptions could be changed at any time and you could get stuck in another country for a while. I also had plans to travel but I canceled it until the travel restrictions are lifted.

With the current exemption rules, you can come back to Canada since you have a job, but for your spouse, there could be some problems as the return is not for essential purposes.
