Will I be able to re-enter Canada and continue my job?

I've been on a temporary work permit for 3 years, which will expire on the 17th of January 2019. I asked for permanent residency (Quebec skilled worker) about 6 months ago but with current waiting times I do not expect to receive this for at least another 9 months.

My employer now wants to hire me indetermenently, but because of all the paperwork this seems to require they won't manage to do so before the 19th of January and therefore propose to give me provisionally a 3 month contract and at the end of that the final contract.
With this short-term contract I can apply to extend my temporary work permit for the indicated 3 months and I will reapply (perhaps before even having been accorded the first extention) to extent this permit the moment I receive a long-term contract (for the time to obtain permanent residency).

Because of the time it takes to extent a work permit this means I will probably have 'implied resident status' for the next 6 months or so (2 x 3 months).

During that time, can I return to France for about 2 weeks and come back, while keeping my job? I would like to check because from here it appears I might re-enter but not resume my job (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/visitors/implied-status-extending-stay.html).
Can I reapply for one permit extension while another might still be pending?

Thank you

No. Implied status is lost when you leave Canada... You would only be a "visitor" on your return. Also, implied status only occurs if you are actually in status when the application to extend is received by IRCC. Will your work permit "extension" require a new LMIA? If so, and you apply without one, your application may be returned as "incomplete", in which case, implied status never occurred.
