Hi,

I am here on 2yrs closed work permit and due to this Covid-19 impact on all businesses, I have been told for laidoff and my employer that I can opt for CERB benefit which is recently announced by Federal government.

Only last week my consultant has filed my nomination for BC PNP and side by he was waiting for lockdown to be lifted in India so that he can file open work permit for my spouse (along with accompanying child who is a minor and will obtain visa accordingly).

Please clear me that if this (claiming CERB benefits) will impact my PR case and open work permit for my wife?

Personally I dont want to opt for CERB but if I am not paid then I will have no option to avail it to manage my rent and grocery expenses.

Someone please advise as I was planning to reunite with my family in next two months and now all these uncertainties looming large.

Applying for CERB should not impact the application for your wife and child. However you do need to be able to show that you have savings / spare funds in order for the open work permit and TRV to be approved. Do you have savings you can show?

Hi, I have one residential flat (on housing loan) and one residential plot in India. Apart from that a nominal saving in bank accounts (individual accounts; and joint). Since its only my fourth month here I have not much to show in my chequing/savings account here.

You should also doublecheck to see if you meet the requirements for CERB. Employers may not be knowledgeable and it‘s your responsibility to apply if you qualify.

Yes I meet the eligibility criteria and infact this has been suggested to me by my employer to opt for CERB till the time businesses are back to normal.

My concern was just what if I avail this benefit and Visa officer will see it as a liability on govt and dont approve spouse visa application (for my wife).

You’ll need to be employed to apply for a SOWP for your spouse.
