Hi

I read a news article not too long ago which contradicted some of what I've read on this site (wish I had the link still) so I am very confused. I hope someone may be able to clear this up for me.

The facts:- I am a British female. I am married to a Canadian man who was born in Egypt but moved to Canada at a young age and became a naturalized Canadian at around the age of 5. He is now 40 years old. I understand he is considered a '1st generation' Canadian?

My question is:- If I give birth to our child in the United Arab Emirates (where we currently live), will that child automatically be eligible for Canadian citizenship? I believe the answer is yes? Is there anyone official I should speak with in order to establish an official answer to my question? I've tried contacting the Canadian Embassy in my city with no luck.

Thank you

Yes, the child with be a Canadian citizen at birth. However, if/when the child has a child of his/her own, that child (your grandchild), if also born abroad, will not inherit Canadian citizenship.

The "Am I Canadian" interactive questionnaire is here: https://na1.se.voxco.com/SE/56/amic...g=en&tui=ef3c75c6-9a1d-47fe-9f05-d2db783abdae

Answer the questions as if you are your child.

Many thanks. I suspected as such. Same setup for us in Britain.

I'll do the questionnaire, thank you.
