At the moment I am unemployed. I wish to apply for NOC 0911. But there is a big career gap.
my employment history below.
-----------------
2004 June: Graduated- Bachelors degree in Engineering
2004 Jul-2007 Jul: Worked as Engineer (3 yrs experience matching NOC 0911)
2007 Aug-2010 May: Student-Graduated- Masters degree in Engineering
2010 April-Present(July2014): Worked at 3 different companies, for total 9 months, with long gaps in between.
-----------------

Will this big career gap during the last 4 years affect my PR application? Or will they only check whether I

meet 67 points? Will the 'unemployed' status have a serious impact in PR decision?

If the career gap does affect the application, how can I cover that up? I mean, if I join a company now, and

show in my application that I am currently working, will that help to reduce the gap-impact?

Note: I know you will ask me, 'why did you sit at home?'. You may not believe, but the truth is I was unable to find a job. The decision to do Masters leaving my job was the stupidest in my life. I graduated during the peak recession time!! It spoiled my career.

I don't think this will be a problem. CIC clearly states that you should have 1 year of continuous experienc ein last 10 years. As per their website, experience requirements are:

at least one year (1560 hours), full-time or an equal amount in part-time, paid work (volunteer work, unpaid internships, etc. do not count), in the same occupation, and within the last 10 years, at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2011 edition of the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC)

You must show that you did the duties set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC, including all the essential duties and most of the main duties listed. If you do not show that your experience meets the description in the NOC, we will refuse your application."

In your case its just best to write unemployed.

I had a gap of around 1.5 years after college during which I was undergoing IT Training, which was mostly self study and certification exams. I have mentioned that, although I did not attach any supporting documents for that (you are not necessarily expected to have one in such cases).

But the VO may ask for it in the future in which I case may have to explain the situation (attach certification transcripts etc).

Good luck!

Gap or not, do not provide incorrect information. You can explain the gap since it is genuine, but will not be able to explain falsified info. I don't think they will hold a gap against you as long as the criteria are met.
