There is no set time limit(in the Immigration Act) for how long a PR can travel. Our lawyer told me, a PR has to be in Canada while they are determining if they are eligible to sponsor. Once they get sponsorship approval, they can travel for a visit.
I asked because I want to visit my husband for 2 months and she said I have overwhelming evidence to show that I live in Canada such as full-time employment, bank accounts, a house/apartment, etc so I should be fine.
That said, I would not go for long periods though.

You can go for a short stay only (1-2 weeks). Otherwise you run the chance having the family sponsorship application cancelled.
