Hello again,

My wife is pregnant and i want my child to be born in Canada. I am canadian citizen and my wife is not. We are thinking about getting a TRV (my wife needs one to enter canada) to go to canada for delivery ( i understand the costs as we do not have medical).

Should we tell the immigration that she is pregnant and that i intend my child to be born in canda?

i have ample funds and i co-own a house with my brother and we get rent from it.

Regards and thank you very much.

i don't know where your wife is from, but you are likely going to need to show some significant ties to her home country before the issue her a visa. Once in Canada your wife will not be eligible for provincial health care so you will have to pay for the delivery, which I have heard can be up to $10,000. just somerhing to consider.

As you are a Canadian citizen, you realize the child will be a Canadian citizen where ever s/he is born?

Congratulations on the pregnancy!
But I wouldn't tell immigration she is pregnant, and if she can get a TRV, I suggest she get here before it is obvious she is pregnant. CIC doesn't want foreigners coming here to give birth, because the child will then automatically be a Canadian citizen, and people use these anchor babies to immigrate. That's not your case, I know, since you are already here, but that is what the border officials will be looking out for.

Good, but to get a TRV your wife will have to prove she will leave Canada before the TRV expires. Giving birth there and having a husband there will make it look like she won't leave, so they probably won't give her a TRV.
To get the TRV, she should show ties to her country, such as a job, a house, a bank account, other children left behind, enrollment in school, etc.

Thank you all. thank you canadianwoman for the congratulations :)

I understand that my child will be canadian whereever he/she is born but i want him/her to be born in Canada Candian.

CIC should not have problem because i am Canadian and my wife does not need anchore baby to immigrate (i do plan on her immigration by spouse sponser but i have a good job here and cannot settle back in Canada!) i do not know when i will plan to be back in Canada, it may take years!

What if she is given a TRV and it expires before the baby is born? can we extend it by saying she is pregnant? how to justify?

what happens if she lives more that what the immigration officer has allowed her to stay in canada (6 months)?

what will happen at the immigration if she leaves Canada with an expired TRV or has overstayed in Canada than allowed to?

Regards

A TRV is often denied to spouses, even when the couple is settled in another country. There is a lady on this forum with a Thai husband who is settled in Thailand and he has continually been denied TRV's to visit Canada with her. In the end, she had to sponsor him for PR.

Maybe your embassy will be better with the TRV. Try to show that your wife has ties in her home country and that she will return after her visit to Canada. If your wife gets the TRV, once the 6 months is up, you can apply for an extension. Since it takes a couple of months to process an extension, the baby will most likely be born before she gets an answer, even if they say no. If it isn't born yet, she will be too pregnant to fly anyway. She can list being pregnant as a reason for the extension.
