Hi Guys,

I recently got married and after my marriage I applied visitors visa in India and it got approved for my wife. In the mean time, I returned to Canada and I applied Family Class Sponsorship for my wife. Now I am in the process of bringing my wife to Canada via Visitor visa and I checked CIC Call center agents and they informed me that the process of Family Class Sponsorship continue in India and not in Canada once I receive my file number.

Now my question is, people telling different requirements for Visitors. Please request to answer the below questions:

1. Whether return ticket should be shown to CBSA while my wife entering Canada at the border
2. Will the CBSA officer asks for medical insurance for her when she is entering Canada
3. Will the CBSA officer asks her to show some fund. I mean is she required to show some money to officer that she can manager herself.

Also please let me know is there any other questions or documents the CBSA officer might ask?

1. Your wife will need a return ticket in order for the airline to let her board the plane to Canada. CBSA may ask to see her return flight or they may not.
2. No.
3. They might. It would be a good idea to have some kind of proof to show how she is going to support herself while visiting.

ok thank you for your quick response. So I am assuming that she is not required to show any other documents to CBSA officer. Is it?

It would be required if the CBSA officer asks for it. Would they ask for it? No body knows.

On a sidenote I have known people asked for medical insurance when they say they will be in Canada for more than 2 months. While they weren't refused for not having it the officer wasn't too happy for the negative answer.

I bought the insurance for my wife when she arrives here. Even if it's not required, it's well worth protecting youreslf from any unexpected medical expenses. The cheapest coverage is only like around $50-$70/month, so why not? Also, having it, even if not required, I think will help make the border officers even more satisfied that you're a genuine visitor.

Medical Insurance is not required for regular visitors to Canada. It is just a precaution in case there is a medical emergency and you need to see a doctor or even get into a hospital the bills are super crazy.

You may get like $50k coverage for a couple of months for about 50-100 dollars. Visitors to Canada Insurance - check out the prices.

As for other questions, you need to show 'em that you are able to afford staying in Canada. You may have an open-date return ticket too in case you are not sure when exactly to leave.

Hi natrajs35,

I applied trv for my wife 2 weeks before (in New Delhi) and it got rejected. We got married in June 2014. I am in Canada with PR status like you.
I kept all possible documents, but no luck.
Any inputs in terms of documentation would be much appreciated. Please email me at smartvimo@gmail.com.
Thank you very much.

Hi Guys,

I think it totally depends on VO. Because my friend has applied 3 times and it got rejected all the times for him. I got married on July 7th, 2014 and I applied Visitor Visa on July 17th via VFS Global, Chennai. Please find the list of documents which I submitted:

1. Marriage Certificate
2. Her Educational Documents
3. My PR proof
4. Marriage Pictures
5. My Salary slips
6. My Employment proof letter
7. Bank statements for last 6months in Canada

I received the passport back with visa on July 26th, 2014. I think its helps you. If you guys need any more details please let me know.

Note: I didn't applied my Sponsorship application at the time I applied Visit visa. I applied only on Aug 11th after I came to Canada.

Thanks...
