My wife and I applied for her PR through the Bogota, Colombia office but I am now back in Canada. She is flying here on August 29th but on her tourist visa, which she already had before we applied for her PR. The idea is that we can live together here in Canada while the outland application is processed. Obviously, she can't work and has a limit on how much time she can stay in the country.

Any advice for what she should say when coming into the country? I imagine the truth lol if they ask. But I'm wondering if the fact that we have the outland application in process will be a problem? She has a return ticket and has travelled to Canada a bunch of times before.

Anyone have experience with doing this?

Actually having the PR app in progress will be a big help as CBSA tends to be much easier on people in this situation. So be upfront and show them proof of PR app (receipt, sponsor approval, etc), but explain she will also follow all rules of visitor visa.

yes, always tell the truth. it is acceptable to say "i am here to visit my husband and i have submitted a PR application." Have copies of the application, receipts and correspondence from CIC to show if they ask. Her return ticket will be useful, and any ties she has to her home country will help too (recent paystubs, proof of housing, etc). Like Rob said, CBSA is more lenient to those who have apps submitted.

Thanks guys! All great advice. The sponsor approval just came through so we'll be able to send all of those papers, as well as proof of application and payment. Also she already has the return ticket.

She is currently living with her parents and I don't think she's had any pay stubs as of late, but she is a co-owner in the family business. But really hopefully the proof we have is sufficient.

She is bringing her dog with her though, so hopefully that is fine.

I have entered the country while I've still been waiting for my PR. As everyone has said, be truthful and upfront. We didn't have to use it, but we had a copy of all the applications forms and proof of financial support etc. Best to be organised that not.

She should contact her veterinarian, as well as view the CIC website, to see what is required to bring the dog into Canada...before she arrives!

I don't think you should be as relaxed as some of these people are telling you. Showing up with her dog indicates that she may not be coming just as a tourist. This places the discretion with cbsa and she does come from a country that requires a visa. I just do not want you to think it is a given that they will just wave her through.

there are plenty of people who travel with their pets for vacations. especially if they are visiting family and friends. it is not commonly known to be a "red flag" for refusal of entry, unless the pet does not have the proper paperwork to enter canada.

To bring the dog, see here: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/animals/terrestrial-animals/imports/policies/live-animals/pets/eng/1326600389775/1326600500578

Yes, we do have all the propers vaccines and paperwork for the dog, so that shouldn't be a problem there.

In terms of it appearing like she's staying there because she is bringing her pet, I don't think they will assume that. She has a dog, she can't just leave it alone while she visits for a few months, therefore she needs to bring the dog. Plus we've already applied out land and she does have a return ticket to go back to Colombia for Christmas....so I don't think there would be any red flags of sorts in this situation. At least, I'm hoping everything works out great! Logically, in my mind there doesn't seem to be any reason why she would be turned away.

I used to visit my husband five weeks at a time. The last visit was in nobvember for six months with a return ticket and Application for PR was submitted one month prior.
I was pulled to secondary questioning at the airport because they said they wanted to be sure I wasn't moving permanently yet. They were nice to me and I explained that I was able to get a house sitter and pet sitter for six months and had a return ticket. They said I could have brought my cats. They said they just wanted to be sure I would go back to the USA after my visit. It only took a few minutes. I told them I have to cause I have cats and house.
While I was visiting I got COPR in march but returned to USA in May as planned and my husband got a ticket and went with me. We spent six days getting the house ready for sale, brought the cats and a few things and drove six days to land and I am in Canada with my cats, car and PR.
I wish you the best and think you will be fine as long as honest, and say visit, not moving.
