Why would you reject an OINP?

Morning all,

Just waiting on my IELTS results from the 3rd of June before I add my name into the draw but I have a question.

I noticed some people are stating they have received an OINP but are holding off on accepting it to see if they can rather get an ITA from the EE pool.

My question is why would you hold off? Is it simply that you don't want to move to Ontario or is there some other issues around accepting the provincial nomination that I'm not aware of?

I'm thinking of heading to Ottawa or Toronto so the OINP seems like it would be perfect, am I missing something?

Oh and regarding my CRS I'm around 410 without my wife doing the IELTS, if she does it we bump up to 430 so an ITA shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks,

It's simple - As FSWs, you can eligible to move and relocate to anywhere in Canada, however, for PNPs, an applicant is ETHICALLY bound to stay and work in the nominated province atleast for a year or two. One can argue that being a PR you can too move about the country, as there are no LEGAL obligations, but since the province has taken an interest in you, as a good faith in return, the least you can do is stay in the province for some period. :)

Since the CRS is falling, some feel it is better to wait for the draw and apply as FSWs.

With OINP:
Additional processing time (approx 6 months) for OINP, and after you get OINP you receive ITA
Additional money - fees for OINP $1500

Normally, you don't need to choose OINP unless your score is far less to be covered by CRS.

Okay cool so I'm not missing anything, it is just the requirement to stay in Ontario that you are ethically obliged to do. Thanks

That's quite the additional cost... but not a deal breaker.

Could you clarify the 6 month processing time?

So accepting an OINP is going to add 6 months to the time as I would then need to complete the ITA after those 6 months?

6 months minimum for OINP + time to get ITA + documents upload and submit the application + 6 months for PR card.

Hmm okay, that's a big issue. Makes more sense now that people don't accept it.

Am I also correct in assuming that when you apply for your OINP you are pulled from the EE pool until it's done?

+1

Although the time to receive the nomination has drastically reduced, one has to send out all the relevant documents plus 1500 CAD.

In my case ( and many other who applied under OINP During December and January 2016) my OINP application took 11 months to get approved. In addition, the provincial nominee category under the Express Entry (EE) is the slowest by far. The average processing time for an inland PNP application under the EE is 6 months as opposed to the 3 months for CEC applicants.

From what I have observed, applying under a PNP stream can add something around 6 to 20+ months to the average PR processing time.
