Why was my RPRF payment denied?

Hey guys,

There may be a very simple answer to this question (if it's what I'm thinking), but I figure it's worth asking...

I have most of my application assembled, but not submitted. I was under the impression that you could pay
your PR fees before submitting your application, so I thought I'd get it done. Unfortunately, when I submitted
all of my CC info, it told me that my payment failed. I tried it several times, to no avail. I did try to pay out of
my RBC US bank account (I don't have a Canadian CC account, or Visa/Mastercard Canadian bank account),
which is the primary reason why I think it might have failed.

Is this a likely scenario, or is there some weird bureaucratic red tape that I'm missing?

Thanks!

Yes, that's why it failed. Online payment can't be made from a bank account, only by Visa, Mastercard, AMEX or a prepaid credit card.

See this page http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=325&t=4

Easiest thing for yo to do is to get a prepaid credit card, lots of places sell them.

Ah, I knew it. I haven't been able to find a place that does prepaid credit cards over $500 - without a delay of several weeks. We're moving next week and I'd like to get this taken care of so I can have the receipt when I go to cross the border to update my status from temporary foreign worker to stay-at-home-husband. Do you think it would confuse things if I paid the fees separately with different cards?

Another option is to give the money to a parent, sibling etc and have them pay with their credit card.

The RPRF can be paid at a later date (be aware that this can sometimes cause delays) but the initial amount required upfront is $550. This is made up of 2 separate fees (Sponsorship Application, $75 and Principal Applicant, $475) and I wouldn't recommend paying them apart.

I know that the UK company Moneyshop offers a prepaid card with a load limit in the thousands, Moneymart in the US is owned by same company, so if you have one of them near you, try there.
