From what i read in all the checklists, its clearly mentioned that one shouldnt make any travel plans before the visa! Is the reason only because we may loose money(depending on the refund fee of flight) if we dont get a visa?
OR
It could be some immigration issue at the airport because we dont follow what was adviced?
I plan to do it so would like to know of a reason other than the possibility if loosing money.

Since the approval of visa is not 100% sure like other countries, thats why they have mentioned that on their page.

So it won't be an immigration issue as such? Does anyone know of any person who booked in advance ?

yes u can buy tickets and waste money if u dont get the visa(that applies to getting visa late too)
however keep in mind if u dont have a visa u probably wont be allowed to board the plane. they do verify ur visa before they let u leave. assuming ur indian there is a departure immigration check and a smug unfriendly guy/lady asks u questions about where ur going, on what visa etc....lol
over all its not a good idea buying tickets in advance if for some reason ur acceptance is late u still will have to cancel or change ur tickets.

Exacty!!
Immigration officials can target you on anything ...

Thanks for correcting me.

Well I am aware that I need a visa to travel and that I will lose money if i am not accepted but the 5-10K loss is worth the risk. As i said, the answer lies beyond money. All i needed an answert to was if it will be an immigration issue.

Who says you cannot buy your tickets in advance? The immigration officer doesn't have time to check when the ticket was booked!! He just sees if you have a valid visa and fulfill other requirements at the POE!

Note: Make sure you have a valid visa before you travel !

I know many people who booked their ticket in advance fearing the cost of flights get high on neck of the moment!!
Regarding the immigration check there won't be any problem regarding you pre booking of flights! Its a safer side option!!! what if you don't get a flight ticket of economy class on your preffered date! As Indians we always see for superstitious dates! So once you get your visa it will be a hurry burry situations looking for such a dates!
**** minimum of 2500rs for cancellation of ticket before departure in Cathay Pacific! **** so no worries! ;D
All the best.!!!
