Well, Iam considering this to be an obvious question at the time of interview.People may have different answers e.g search of better options among other things...but then how can one actually answer this question.I mean what could be the best possible response? Thanking you all for your contributions.

Good standard of living.
Good welfare measures.
Very high employment rate (i am talking before recession)
equal rights for male and female.
No racial discrimination.
quality education.
Free medicals
free education for kids.
One of the least polluted countries

I know this gives an impression of a paradise but this is what I would have answered. My friend who had migrated earlier had also replied in a similar fashion, he told that visa officer giggled on this reply

I am glad that someone has started this discussion as I was thinking of starting something like this since I started the process. Ok here is my input

1. Better Security : Due to uncertain political/security situation in my country, I would like to live in a country where myself and my family can feel secure.

2. Better Education for my kids: Canada gives lots of opportunities for education and that too at subsidized or even free in some places.

These are the two major reasons for me to move to Canada. Here in Pakistan, I am living a luxurious life since I started my career in 1994 and I know I have to work really hard to achieve the same level, but I am ready to accept this challenge.

My aim is not to have a better job or to strengthen my financial position. All I want is to give my kids quality education in a peaceful environment.

Regards,

Exactly! One can earn millions and millions, but if he/she does not feel secure than its of no use.

this is actually a very good question.

i am a 3rd generation overseas chinese from a small country in asia, and now living in the USA.
i've been to canada for only a few days, but have read and heard much of it.

if u talk about opportunities, usa is definitely much better than canada.
in fact, lots of canadians want to come to usa to work --- but i think most of them will want to return home to retire.
and maybe in the future, major cities in china will probably offer better opportunities than anywhere in the world.

so why canada? i am not really sure because i've there for only a while -- but canada gives me a 'safer' feeling. the streets in toronto and vancouver seem safer than the streets in most big cities in usa. yes i did go to vancouver chinatown which is famous for drug junkies -- but i still found it safer than cities in usa. i didn't see many beggers or homeless people when i was there. in the usa, they are everywhere. i don't really have anything against these unfortunate people, but some of them can be dangerous.

another reason is cultural diversity. asians (or chinese in my case) make up a much smaller percentage of the population in usa than in canada. i think it would be easier to preserve one's own culture in canada than in usa. usa is more like a melting pot, wheres canada really celebrates diversity -- i read this somewhere.

and then there is the climate. i don't like hot climate. i prefer cooler climate.

also, the natural environment, the fresh air and water -- these are things we take for granted now -- but in the next few decades, many countries in asia will be so heavily polluted that it will be dangerous to live there. by then, places with fresh air and water will be so expensive that so the rich can live there.

having said all that, i think if you are a ambitous young man, especially if you are of chinese or indian descent, maybe you should be in mumbai or shanghai or beijing, because that's where the growth and opportunities will be in the coming decades.

i think canada is a good place to raise a family (i think the canadian government gives your subsidies to raise your children). you can probably still raise your children in canada without them losing their asian roots. when they grow, if they are smart enough, they can always go to china, which will be world no.1 by then, to build their careers. or to india.

also, canada strikes me as quite humanitarian. for example there is no death sentence. and they won't extradite somebody to a country which will execute him. actually, i am not anti-capital punishment. but from this, you can see that this is quite a humanitarian society --- quite unlike usa which still has a 'cowboy' mentality. the americans are an aggressive people.

finally, the maple leaf flag is so nice.

my chances of migrating to canada are very slim now because of the list of 38 occupations -- but i am still gonna try even if it's a long shot.

actually i'm pro canada! otherwise why would i be in this forum?

but one has to be realistic about the opportunities in canada if one does not have 'canadian experience' or canadian qualifications.
even with canadian experience and qualifications, the opportunities may not be that many -- at least not as many as in the usa.

but i think canada is a better place to live in than the usa.

I like what Maoist has said. There can be more opportuniyies in the U.S. than in Canada. Many Canadians do move to the U.S and thrive and are not there driving cabs or delivering pizzas. They have an advatange because they lok and sound like most Americans, and even act much the same. Canadian qualifications are also much in demand as employers do know that Canada does have high standards.

I will never say (as a Canadian) which country is better as it is a matter of choice on the personal level. If I was single I would probably enjoy the U.S. while equally missing Canada. Ideally for me, I would love to live and raise my family in Canada, do my business in the U.S. and Asia (where I have been mostly for 18 years), that way I get to live in a good safe country, while enjoying the best of what all countries have to offer.

The future is going to be in Asia for business. China and India have no place to go but up. Immigrants to Canada should keep their Asian connections and Canadian companies need to employ Indians and Chinese people to take full advantage of the opportunities that will only grow. Canadian employers also have to learn that there are many other markets other than the U.S.

As for the original question, I would like to add that you should say how you can offer something to Canada. What skills do you have that would benefit Canada?

Best of luck to you all.

Every question has an answer | But In this case it varies from person to person. Current Situation of a Country, Person or Community. It should not be an excelent answer or set reply which may be every person says in an interview. I am sure the person (IO) who asks you this question is allready known to its answer or expecting the same answer. The answer could be anything that you give priority in your life but all matters is that the way you plea and present it. Otherwise we all at this forum almost having the common reasons to fly to Canada.

Hi Nicholas,

On a personal note, what business you are in? Can we explore the possibilities of mutual cooperation?
