this is actually a very good question.
i am a 3rd generation overseas chinese from a small country in asia, and now living in the USA.
i've been to canada for only a few days, but have read and heard much of it.
if u talk about opportunities, usa is definitely much better than canada.
in fact, lots of canadians want to come to usa to work --- but i think most of them will want to return home to retire.
and maybe in the future, major cities in china will probably offer better opportunities than anywhere in the world.
so why canada? i am not really sure because i've there for only a while -- but canada gives me a 'safer' feeling. the streets in toronto and vancouver seem safer than the streets in most big cities in usa. yes i did go to vancouver chinatown which is famous for drug junkies -- but i still found it safer than cities in usa. i didn't see many beggers or homeless people when i was there. in the usa, they are everywhere. i don't really have anything against these unfortunate people, but some of them can be dangerous.
another reason is cultural diversity. asians (or chinese in my case) make up a much smaller percentage of the population in usa than in canada. i think it would be easier to preserve one's own culture in canada than in usa. usa is more like a melting pot, wheres canada really celebrates diversity -- i read this somewhere.
and then there is the climate. i don't like hot climate. i prefer cooler climate.
also, the natural environment, the fresh air and water -- these are things we take for granted now -- but in the next few decades, many countries in asia will be so heavily polluted that it will be dangerous to live there. by then, places with fresh air and water will be so expensive that so the rich can live there.
having said all that, i think if you are a ambitous young man, especially if you are of chinese or indian descent, maybe you should be in mumbai or shanghai or beijing, because that's where the growth and opportunities will be in the coming decades.
i think canada is a good place to raise a family (i think the canadian government gives your subsidies to raise your children). you can probably still raise your children in canada without them losing their asian roots. when they grow, if they are smart enough, they can always go to china, which will be world no.1 by then, to build their careers. or to india.
also, canada strikes me as quite humanitarian. for example there is no death sentence. and they won't extradite somebody to a country which will execute him. actually, i am not anti-capital punishment. but from this, you can see that this is quite a humanitarian society --- quite unlike usa which still has a 'cowboy' mentality. the americans are an aggressive people.
finally, the maple leaf flag is so nice.
my chances of migrating to canada are very slim now because of the list of 38 occupations -- but i am still gonna try even if it's a long shot.

Well, Iam considering this to be an obvious question at the time of interview.People may have different answers e.g search of better options among other things...but then how can one actually answer this question.I mean what could be the best possible response? Thanking you all for your contributions.
