Why do we need a certified copy of a document if we can scan the original?

I'm upping an old thread. Did you give your ATIO translator a copy/scan of the document or a copy/scan that was notarized?

Hi DelPiero07, from your name I guess we are from the same country
I got an invitation for a working holiday visa and need to provide the police certificates and the residency certificate that need to be translated.
I contacted some ATIO translator since they are recognised as a certified translator by IRCC, my doubt is if I need to get a certified photocopy by a notary first and after get these translated?
or is ok the scan of the original documents to give to the translator and I will upload on my application the scan of the original documents and the translations received (without any affidavit since I will use an ATIO translator)?
