Hi,
Can anyone explain why Canada is taking so long to issuing CUAET visa to Ukrainian spouses. I know couple of families who applied on the same day but few of them got approval and rest are waiting for months. Even in some cases mother received approval and kids are waiting. What could be the potential reason for this delay?

Based on the many posts I've seen on facebook, almost everyone is waiting 4+ months right now, including Ukrainian nationals. A few people here and there have had their applications processed faster, but the vast majority are waiting many months regardless of whether they are the Ukrainian national or a foreign spouse or a dependent child. The reason is application volumes. IRCC has received over 500K applications. These are absolutely massive volumes and the visa offices are overwhelmed. The applications are also processed individually which is why approvals don't all come through at the same time. Unfortunately there's nothing people can do but wait.

Canada didn’t anticipate the volume of applicants and realistically can’t process or absorb so many people in a short amount of time plus others who are entering through other immigration programs. Canada had also hoped that most would find a fast way to become financially self-sufficient and independent but that hasn’t been the case for a large percentage. Canada was also facing huge immigration backlogs for other programs and all resources can’t be diverted to processing only Ukrainian applications. Realistically people should expect a slower processing rate after a large initial number of approvals to allow for people to get settled and for resources on the ground to be prepared for new arrivals once they helped the initial arrivals get settled. Although Canada declared that it would accept an unlimited amount of Ukranian citizens I can’t imagine that they will be able to accept 500k people unless it is over many years and will likely be dependent on whether enough of the initial arrivals are able to secure employment and housing.
