pre arrival 13 march 2018
medical request 9th april 2018
medical passed 29 april 2018
after that no updates

It's started to appear for all profiles recently as part of new CIC/IRCC requirements.
It seems you already have provided one way back anyway.

For the new applicants starting July 31 2018, they can check on
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/biometrics.asp

if they need to provide biometrics. For those old applications, prior July 31, CIC will probably inform or contact them if its needed. Not sure.
