Page 4 on this doc states the employer's responsibility for travel expenses and I have seen it in other government sites. NOC C/D.

It is one thing to have a contract that says the return airfare would be borne by the employer and it is another thing if the employer does actually bears the cost of airfare or not. Since your prospective employer has already indicated at the time of your interview that you would need to pay all your travel expenses I wonder he would pay you the airfare even though it is on your contract.

I have spoken to employers who do not pay for transportation getting from home country to Canada, but will pay the portion from POE to the work location. Some employers pay the airfare, but charge more for room and board than they do for those who don't need transportation and that ends up costing MORE than the flight. I don't think this is what the Canadian Government intends, but it happens and I suspect that a job offer is accepted by the prospective employee without making a fuss - what is the alternative? Sadly, there only a few choices: pay airfare upfront, "pay back" the costs, refuse the job offer, or pray that you find the right employer.

As far as i know it is a mandatory requirement for an employer in Alberta to pay the airfare for a non-skilled TFW (NOC C & D). I think that my employer doesnt even know that he has to pay it cos he actually never employed anyone outside of Canada. The thing is, he didnt even know that i can obtain my WP at POE as i am from an exempt countries list... :eek: Its just so confusing... I have sent him an email saying i can obtain my WP at POE but he didnt get back to me..

your employer knows the rules. my impression is he just ignores the travel expenses maybe he may not be saying directly but hopefully the point of not getting back on you is just a mere delay of reply. if not, i think he is waiting for you to volunteer your airfare or in his mind it's your turn to make yourself arrive to him by your means...i hope i help; this is my analysis.

Hiya :)
So i have received my positive LMO today after 9 weeks waiting (this is for Alberta) and on the LMO document + on the employment contract it clearly says that the employer MUST pay the airfare but as i said before he told me to pay it so i guess i will need to do that. He did his part of recruiting me and giving me the chance of coming to work to Canada so now i have to do mine. Thats how i see it...
Thx for all ur replies ;)

@Michelle888,

That is totally wrong. If the contract says that the employer MUST shoulder the cost of airfare the employer must abide by it. You are not obliged to pay on your pocket for the airfare. Contract is BINDING and it must be followed to the letter. So my suggestion is do not pay for your airfare instead let the employer pay for it to comply with the contract.....

Yes, unless the job requires a medical.
