There is no such thing as a "sponsor" for TRV.

You can have a host. The host can be anyone you know or that knows you. It can also be an institution or company.

You are the one who has to prove that you can afford the trip. You have to show around 1K CAD per week of visit after accommodations and travel arrangements..

So if i don't need a sponsor for applying visitor visa,,, why there's a section in one of the forms about invitee's details?? They have asked to fill info abt invitee's status in canada, his/her invitation letter etc.
So do i need a invite from canada for applying visitor visa? If yes, from whom?
Is the invitation compulsory..
What is the role of the invitee....can he/she show that they can bear our costs of accomodation and food etc...does that affect my limit of showing the funds??
Experts plz help

The invitation is not compulsory, and IMO, it's almost a non-factor in TRV applications in most cases.
What the senior members have been saying is that YOU must show that you can afford the trip on your own, if you want any chance of getting your visa granted, even if someone else will be providing for your trip.
If indeed you have a "sponsor" or invitation from a Canadian citizen/resident, then you must provide their details. But this is only supplementary information for the visa officer. It will be up to them to decide if the visa will be granted if they see the host shouldering the trip expenses when the applicant does not show sufficient funds, but it usually does not end up well.

A sponsor is someone that takes care of your financial expenses during the visit. This doesn't exist for a TRV.

The section you are referring to is for your host... if you have one. If the checklist you have asks for an invitation letter then it is because you said you are visiting family or friends. If this is true, surely they can provide you with the invitation letter.

No, you do not need one. If you are visiting family or friends then it is expected to have one.

Invitee? you?

Your role is to show you can afford the trip.

Just to make it clear, even thou they were the ones who's going to cover all your expenses, you still need to have money on the bank for you to get a higher chance to get approved to a tourist visa? We are planning to apply for one (Me and my child who's father is already a canadian citizen)

PS: we are not married
