My daughter name on birth certicate is in Chinese, and I can translate them to English based on Cantonese sound nicely to my wish. Also I want to add another English name to her, like Betty. Do I still need some firm in Shenzhen to translate or notary before I fill in her application for citizenship certificate in English?

Write your daughter name in pinyin or equivalent (for example, Yao as last name and Ming as given name) in section 3A of the citizenship application and then write Ming Betty as given names in section 3B. Deliver the whole application with supporting document, fee and photographs to the Citizenship section of the Canadian consulate in Hong Kong for CIC approval. If the birth certificate is not in English or French, it must be accompanied by a certified or notarized translation.

I am exactly in the same boat as yours. It is quite difficult to get relevant information from Canadian websites in Hongkong and China. Instead, I got more details from websites from Japanese website. The Operational Manual (CP17) from CIC website is quite helpful too. Yes, one more thing, you cannot file application in Hongkong. Hope you can tell me the procedures after you file your application.

Thanks for the reference. However, when I went to the CIC website an looked for CP 17, the website said that CP stands for "chapter". Could you give more details about the manual, please? I'd like to read it.

Found it! Thanks anyway.
