Hi folks,

I submitted my parents sponsorship this year (only qualified for family size of 3 people for 2020, 2019 and 2018 tax year), now I want to sponsor my spouse as well (we married in-land this 2021), so I have questions:

  1. How does it affect my parents current sponsorship application?
  2. My family size is now changed from 3 to 4 people, so does 3 years minimum income retroactively calculate again at 4 people back in 2020, 2019 and 2018? Or family size of 4 only apply starting this 2021?
Please advice as I am very confusing now.

Thanks a lot

Your income for 2021 must include 4 people and you must update IRCC of the change in your family composition (Not optional). Looks like you got married before April so you should have included your spouse in your PGP application although I’m somewhat confused whether you got selected in 2021. You can still qualify for LICO for 3 people for 2018, 2019 and 2020. No point delaying sponsorship of your spouse since IRCC must be told that you got married.

In another scenario, just want to know more how the minimum income system work:
If planning to get married in 2022 and submit spouse sponsorship right in 2022, now family size in 2022 is 4 people while family size in 2021, 2020 and 2019 still 3 people (myself and my parents). If parents got invited in 2022 for sponsorship instead, and submit application late 2022, so how does family size work here? My understanding that it is still counted at 3 people in the last 3 years (2021, 2020 and 2019), is that correct?
Many thanks

Impossible to say in advance e she’s previous years the family size for all years was based on the current family size. Then they changed it to family size was calculated every year and was based in the family size that year. Before the program is announced it’s a guess. You should increase your income by 5-10k. The income needed for 3-4 people is not really enough to support 3-4 people in most cities not to mention costs associated with getting older.
