There are 100s of 1000s of Indians who are applying for Canadian citizenship, but here's a case that has everything ready but is fine to deny the child their Canadian citizenship. Wouldn't it be simple to get the child a Canadian passport, get an OCI, and move back to India in your 3-4 years horizon? The child continues to live in India and enjoy all benefits that come with OCI and then when they turn 18, can take a call whether they want to stay Canadian or give it up and be OCI+voting rights+agricultural property.

Given the circumstances, if a British / Pakistani citizen, without any claim to Indian citizenship (Adnan Sami) can get Indian citizenship, anyone with Indian parents can.
The only problem that comes with an OCI card is the expense to give primary education in India. Usually the tuition fees would be 2x-3x or more for a OCI. If the child stays in Canada for just 3-4 years, is it really necessary to get a Canadian Passport for that timespan or an Indian passport can do the job also provided the child needs a valid passport for International travel?

LOL. I beginning to wonder if this is a troll post or a serious question. If the child wants to travel internationally, till your 3-4 years time frame return to India, they will need a passport - you may be aware of this rule. It's not that complicated.

A 2x-3x primary education cost in India may still be a cheaper option than a 3x international student fee in Canada, unless you absolutely determined to not want your child to get post secondary education outside India.

For the moment, your best bet would be to reach out to IHC / CGI to ask what provision they have for a case like this. I doubt there has been a similar case on this forum, so most members would share their opinion and not personal experience.

Most definitely not a troll post :) The only major doubt is after getting an Indian Passport will the child get a Canada Visa or not. Canada might say that by virtue of birth the child is a Canadian citizen and then may not grant a visa (to it's citizen). That was the primary query.

Which is why I think most are recommending why complicate a situation and take the Canadian passport

We know answer to this question... 100%..... they won't give visa....

One obvious option is to leave Canada after taking the Indian passport & Canadian birth certificate and don't come back to Canada till you finish the school (or 18).

Primary education is what $100-150/month? No one knows what the tuition fees will be after 18 years, but I graduated from one of the best Indian uni, for OCIs/Foreign students from last I checked the fee is still not that high: https://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/balanceFeeUG2022.jsp

I don't get your concern here.
