Hi,

I am Suman and planning to apply for the Canada PR. I am planning to take the IELTS on January 20th 2018. My birthday falls on February 24th and I will be turning a year older, which means a 5-6 points reduction in my overall score. My question here is, what if I apply well before my birthday (say 12th FEB 2018, which is 12 days before my date of birth), will 12th February be considered while calculating the points or any other date after my birthday. I am asking this question because if my application is considered after my birthday, then I can postphone my IELTS exam by 2-3 weeks so that I can relax a bit and have some more time to prepare well and score good in IELTS. If it is the other way around (which means the date I forward my application will be considered to calculate my points), then I need to pull up my socks, put some more extra efforts than what I am putting in now; take my IELTS on 20th Jan 2018 and apply for the PR well before my date of birth. Kindly shed some light on this.

Your points will hold true to the information you provided while creating the application! After your birthday, the system will automatically reduce the points.
Post ITA, If your updated CRS points is lesser than the cut off score the draw, The officers SHOULD consider to apply public policy, which CAN result in exemption from refusal on ground of age. So this means that the regulation provides no guarantee to the applicant that an exemption is granted. It is a recommendation whose implementation is left at the discretion of the officer who will consider whether or not to apply the exemption. It may be that - in practice, it is common that exemption is granted but there seems to be a residual risk.
