WHICH CITY TO LAND ? -for New Immigrants

Dear Qorax,

I will land canada on February. I am interested to do garments clothing business over there as this is my current business. I know toronto and montreal is good for clothing business.
But I want to land in alberta. Can you advise me is calgary/edmonton is good for clothing business? Is there enough buyer of clothing? Can I sale wholesale clothing there and pick up order from buyers?

Calgary/Edmonton r good cities as well, thus any business could succeed there too if u r good at it.

1. Your first job, or two, will not be in your line of expertise, very unlikely.
2. Most cities could be Ok with the 'survival jobs'.
3. Generally for a newcomer the big-5 cities r our best bet, unless u have relatives/friends elsewhere.

i do have contacts in canada and USA.... i don't care if got survival job first anyways i am doing SEO (Search engine optimization) internet marketing as well course so what about the chances in this field as i will be expert in few weeks only as i have started for few websites to make them on top in search engine from last few days only....hope to make them in number in google, microsoft and bings website in top of search pages including thru PPC....pls do share your opinion or share me anything related to my field so i could got the job on that field.....thanks in advance and yes this is really true that you are one of all who help each and everyone thanks for that

I wasn't, but came back.

I repeat, u'd initially get into survival jobs... something in your expertise would come later, once u have settled down & networked. As of now no one knows u & u do not either - so it'd be a tough call.

I'm not aware of SEO marketing... however it looks to be a 'self-employment' vocation rather then being employed with someone. The foregoing applies in any case.

Once u come here - u'd assess - network - then things will start falling-into place slowly.

Rest assured, this is an awesome place to be!

Hi Qorax,

First of all, thanks for all the clarification you have provided in my previous queries. You truly are of big help to all of us.

Since this is a 2 year-old thread, I would like to ask if the situation in Toronto right now, in terms of job prospects, is the same as when you started this thread? How is the labor market in Toronto now compared to Alberta and Edmonton? I've heard Toronto has quite a number of jobs available but there are also a lot you have to compete with on these jobs. How true is this?

I really am in a deadlock in choosing between these cities. I hope you can give me (or us) the situation of these cities based on your experience and on what you have heard from your friends and the locals. I am reading some published articles but sometimes these articles do not portray the exact situation of these cities especially new immigrants who do not have Canadian qualifications / experience.

By the way, my experience is in the manufacturing industry (electronics in particular) and my wife is an accountant - which is why we also consider Toronto where manufacturing and business is present.
