I would say 'unsuitable for newcomers, unless you have 100,000 dollars in deposits'. It doesn't matter what type of applicant you are.
The HSBC Premier account enables you to transfer money easily between countries and also transfer credit from your previous country, but this of course comes at a price. As you said, their charges are terribly high.
