Doesn't really matter.

I got married in Canada and i'm Dutch.
It's more important to have a wedding and take pictures of it. IT will help greatly later on

would this be YOUR first marriage? What province would you want to be getting married in? each province has didn't rules to applying for marriage certificate especially if the non-citizen has been divorced. If you are getting married in the US check with your state make sure that your husband doesn't need the long form of his Birth certificate (most just have the short form) but it doesn't have all the information that may be needed come to think of it check as far as townships go we decided to get married in Niagara Falls US cus I was divorced just seemed easier to do it in the states then get written permission from the government to get married  were told any clerks office in NY would issue it but in NY City they wanted long form but in Niagara Falls they accepted short form I'm thinking cus it was a border city I dunno anyways I'm rambling... but with alittle more information and I could give better answers...

Small weddings are easier to "fake", big $20.000,...not so much

The guys looking over your application have most likely seen SO much fraud, that they will pick anything apart.

A US/Canada couple has less to worry about. A small wedding won't hurt you - just make sure to make it look as special as possble, have some kind of reception or dinner after, and go on a honeymoon! Not doing these things can be explained away, but it is a lot easier to not have to.
Now couples where one is from a country where there is perceived to be a lot of marriage fraud: in this case I agree that a big wedding will look more convincing. Ditto if in the culture of the applicant a big wedding is considered normal, such as India.

Because US is much harder on immigrating... take for instance if you wanted to sponsor your husband to come to the US you must make $35,000 a year to do so... in Canada they waive the income requirements. Someone who was arrested for drugs no matter how much of whatever and they ain't getting into the country... etc...

Hey that's right near me! I'm in the 1000 Islands too, but in Canada :)

Anyway, hubby and I got married in a small wedding, about 11 people there. Sponsorship was approved, and waiting on the second part. But I think the whole American/Canadian thing is okay with the small wedding thing. It's not a huge difference between here and there so the chances of fraud is slim (not saying it doesn't happen, just slim). But a small wedding is totally okay! :) Congrats!

Regarding why people would want fake weddings.... Some Canadian citizens and PR 'sell' spousal sponsorship. Others 'marry' a relative to commit fraud. Sponorship fraud is a big deal in some places. Canada is a great place to live (free quality healthcare for one) and a lot of people would love to immigrate here. Plus, as mentioned, it's easier than the USA.

On a helpful note - make sure you have a picture of yourself, your spouse, and the person performing the ceremony (pastor, judge, commissioner, etc).

We had 8 adults and 3 children at our wedding. It was an elopement planned in 3 weeks. We invited several more people, but given the time crunch, many couldn't attend. We held the ceremony at a friend's house and got married in front of the fireplace. We had a best man and a flower girl... that's it! I also smashed cake into my husband's face... CIC is definitely getting that picture... I'm still alive after doing that... Total proof our relationship is real! :)

We will be taking a honeymoon in November if the weather permits. (We aren't driving through the Rockys in a blizzard, no thanks.) If not, I'm going to go to one of those discount travel sites and try to book a cheap weekend getaway closer to our home.
