CIC agent's have quotas they can not exceed, so even for files that are completed they wait for validations to be able to send them.

Now there are two possibilities : either a big PPR wave in the next two weeks or a suspension until 2017.

Hello sylvia27, exactly the same for me, is your background check "in progress" ? if yes since when ? what's your timeline ?

Yes my background check has been in progress since August I believe but I was still missing the CSQ which is approval from Quebec which I submitted in September.
I sent an email for CIC Ottawa on October 25th asking where they are on the progress and if there's anything missing that they require. Their response was:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Your file is currently under review and requires additional verifications. As a result, the assessment period will be outside of our posted processing times.

Unfortunately at this time we are not able to determine when your application will be finalized, but our office will contact you as soon as all verifications are completed, or if any additional information or documents are required.

We appreciate your patience and ask that you keep correspondence with our office to a minimum. In order to process requests efficiently, we will not be responding to duplicate requests.

So from the looks of it, they may be doing additional checks but I don't know what these checks are...

I'm on other forums and facebook pages, what can happen now on the next two weeks is a big wave of PPr , oherwise we will be projected in 2017 and at this time we will have until March 2017 the chance to receive an answer. At this time we will have been waiting for more than 3 years to have a response while some 2016 applications are already finalized !

Its been a week since the online status is updated, they also sent back any original documents we sent to them but no letter or passport request as yet!

Yeah I believe it's additional background check. But I'm not worried they'll have to send a PPR before medicals are expired which in our case is June 2017. And I don't believe they will wait until the last second as the visa expiration will probably be June 2017 as well so they would at least give a few months before. I don't mind if we get the visa in 2017 as my parents are not planning to come anytime before Spring 2017.

yes I believe you are in a good time, because there are 2014 applicants (like me) who still have not received the ppr yet, while 2015 and 2016 applicants already landed !!!

I wish cic will send a big wave of ppr those two upcoming weeks for 2014 applicants to reach the quota of this year if it's not reached yet ! if not, there's no logic in cic methods ... and I guess it's gonna be for March 2017 ... and I'm sur that 2015 and 2016 applicants will get the ppr before 2014 applicants I will never understand that logic of cic

DM to PPR can take upto 5 weeks. So stay positive.

haha no I won't ! I'm really happy for you and all those who received PPr (from 2014, 2015, 2016) but I'm just surprised how this process takes too much time, as you told me more than once this is the end of the year, and holidays .... If you have any news about Ottawa, if they start sending PPr this week to someone please let me know ^^

Yes- I am a 2014 applicant. Medical PCC, fees all sent and paid end of May 2016. Still waiting for some email regarding the decision made status update. They also sent back any original documents we had sent.
No letter or news abour passport request.

I know of 2015 applicants who have even finished their landing. Very frustrating knowing that all my paper work is clear and up to date and still waiting. I know a lot of you are in this boat, so will understand my anxiety..
