What? You're looking to claim asylum and then leave? You expecting visa free travel with an asylum claim? What's your hurry......it's not like you can travel back to your home country (at least not until you get citizenship in Canada, and that's quite a few year away)?

? Just pointed out that processing times are back to being around 2 years for many. Will likely increase unless there is reform given the backlog.

Waiting is okay for me. But when can I apply for the travel document? Afer the hearing?

As an asylum claimant you need to be prepared to not travel out of Canada for the foreseeable future. If everything goes very smoothly and you are very lucky that may mean a year but realistically many wait closer to 2 year if not longer just to get a hearing an many are not successful so go on to appeal. Some protected people end up waiting 5+ years before they were able to qualify for an RTD and leave Canada. If you are a recent asylum claimant and need to leave Canada you have some tough decisions to make.

Actually, I can wait and stay in Canada. But I may need to travel for work one day who knows. Travelling is not very important, but what sort of ID document I can holder here to for apply jobs/studies/ driving licenses ect. I am a bit confused here. Do I need to let them hold my passport first and wait for the hearing? The hearing takes 1 to 2 years. Before the hearing, what can I do in Canada as I cannot leave?

Do you mean after submitting the refugee claim, we need to wait till IRCC make a decision before applying for RTD? When I can I apply for RTD exactly?

Yes, you need to wait for the hearing and for IRCC to made a positive decision before you can apply for a PRTD.

What is the difference PRTD vs RTD? Can I apply for the RTD right after my first interview?

PRTDs are for people who are already PRs. You don't qualify for a PRTD.

Again, no, you cannot apply for the RTD right after your first interview. This question has already been repeatedly answered. You have to wait until after your hearing and after IRCC has approved you as a protected person.

You will not be able to travel even for work for quite some time.

You can get a provincial ID card or use your brown paper/RPCD as ID.
