Hello,

I'm confused as to when the medical needs to be done for an outland spousal PR application? Does it have to be done before the application is sent (and include proof when the application is sent)? Or must it be done at a specified time during the processing of the application?

Thanks!

From what I have been told, it is a good idea to do it BEFORE you send your application, but if you do not they will request it after a period of time (don't worry). The only downfall of providing it with you application is the medical is only valid for one year, so it will need to be done again if your application takes a while to process.

fyi.....some applications are returned if the medical is not enclosed....it seems to depend the agent opening your file.......as there is some inconsistency in this

Strongly advise to do your medical BEFORE you send your application for processing. I would have your medical a day or 2 before you send your application off and not to get it done to early as it is only valid for a year. A medical valid a full year should be long enough whilst your application is in process unless you are applying through a Visa office with a slow processing time. :D

As per the document checklist, for spousal applications to be considered complete, proof of the medical MUST be included. That is why applications are returned if proof of the medical is not enclosed with the documents.

so how does it work then since the processing takes 22 months? the medical will expire by the time they look at the application.

If the medical is expired by the time processing is done (remember that times stated are AVERAGES), then your spouse will be asked to submit proof of a new medical exam. That is what happened for us, I did a new medical and 3 weeks later was requested to submit my passport for my visa insertion.

CIC has now issued guidelines regarding extending the validity of medicals if that is the only requirement for visa issuance, also.

In summary you should do your medical prior to sending your application to CIC (Do your medical as near to postal date as possible). You will have a record of your medical given to you by the panel physician, make a photocopy of it and send the original in with your application, so that they can match your medical from the database with your copy you have submitted. Possibly since Singapore is 1 of the longer visa offices to process applications you may be required to do another examination however if all that stops the Visa Office issuing COPR then they can apply a 12 month extension at their discretion.

Good luck :D

ON 24-04-2013. Yeah!
They have a new policy that the medicals can be extended if that is the only information needed on the application.
The person working on you file makes the application for the extension.
