When is the best time to update your application with your married name?

I submitted my application earlier this month and did everything under my maiden name since that's what was listed on my passport, documentation, etc. I am now going through the process of getting a new passport with my married name and have already legally changed my name in the US.

Can someone who has done this before, walk me through the process of when and how I should go about alerting the CIC of my name change and what documentation I will need to submit, as well as if I can expect this to cause a delay with my application? I'm wondering if there is a particular stage of the application where it will be most advantageous to submit the change.

Thank you!

Assuming you are the applicant, it is recommended to change your name in your application AFTER Sponsor approval has been confirmed and BEFORE your application is finalized.

All you need to do to change your name in your application is to send an updated copy of your passport with your new name. You can send this by case specific enquiry on the IRCC website.

When you send an updated passport prior to your status changing to DM, there is generally no delay in processing because of a name change.

it is quite simple to do, and is recommended to do before being approved.

If you are the sponsor, there is no need to change your name with IRCC.
