Hi All.

I sponsored my wife to come to canada and she landed as Canadian PR on Nov 2021.

Her current PR card expires Jan 2027

I know as of Nov 2024, she is now eligible to apply for canadian citizenship. But with so much going on family-wise, she could not start studying or applying that month.

It’s now April 2025, and she just started studying.

Should she start the online application process right now while she is studying

When during the process does she get asked to do the test?

Can she do the test during her own time?

I’m afraid if she applies today, in a few weeks time they will ask her to do her citizenship test and she is ready.

Hi, It is the best time for her to apply while she is studding for the test, as the AOR is now issued in less than a month. I have a friend who submitted his application on Jan 15, 2025 and got the AOR on Jan 28, 2025, fingerprint on March 7, 2025 and the test between March 18 to April 18, 2025. He took the test on March 19, 2025 and the test was updated on March 28, 2025 to completed

It's more like a couple of months before she'll get the test invite, do at any time within a month, and it's not so very difficult for most people.

When she is prompted to do the test (like if application goes through), she can choose when to take it right? And is there a limit (within X amount of days) is when it should be scheduled?

Also second question, do they ask for Proof Of Language Skillls during the intiial application? Or later on?..

Because my wife has not done a IELTS or PTE Core test yet.

Proof of language is part of the application when you submit it so she will need to prove her language via an approved test or university transcripts if she has a university degree that was done in English - see IRCC’s website for more details.

when she gets the test invite it’s a month long window and she can take it at any time within that window. It’s online so time of day does not matter. She will have three attempts to pass it.

It is done online, and as I wrote, 'at any point within a month.' Three tries maximum.

Online is only IELTS Academic, you need IELTS General for IRCC

where do you see online accepted language tests?
Armoured is referring to the citizenship test is online. :)

I don’t know anything about the language tests as I’ma native English speaker and met the language requirement via university degrees. Sorry!

You should believe what you see in official websites. No random forum member is a better source than litteraly going to ielts.org and seeing the pricing yourself, and you already did.
Ya the official website says $300 CAD + which is ridiculous

my wide has a diploma from iraq graduated from the department of English language.

I’m going to have her get diploma from iraq, get it certified to use in canada. And just use that for citizenship application. That should work right?

It will have to say specifically and clearly that the language of instruction was English. Just being the english department may not be sufficient.

Up to you. I deal with this for one family member, we decided it was more straightforward, quicker and more reliable to just do a local test here (the canadian test). Was accepted zero issues.

In your case - getting it from Iraq, translated and all that - will it really save all that much?

Up to you, of course.

we are planning to go to iraq anyway. And certifying it is less then 50$, also no studying required and no need to think about passing this and the actual citizenship test. We save money and also save time.
