I am sure this has been asked many times before, but I cannot find the answer on here.

Do I get the medical sorted before I send in my application or after? The doctors I contacted seemed to think that the VO will tell me when to go for one, although I also get the impression from peoples' timelines that medicals are done before application is filed.

Many thanks.

Family class does the medical exam and sends in the receipt with the application, let the doctor know you are filing Family class the other classes wait until the VO asks... the instructions are Country specific go here and scroll to your country.

You can do both.
You can eitherget them done as you send your application or wait for the VO to ask for it.
If you get them done before, the only risk is that they expire if CIC doesn't get to your application fast enough.
However, if they do, this will accelerate the process.
It is your call. I chose to get them done before I sent the application

Actually - some people had their application sent back before starting stage 1 because of the medicals missing, and more and more I think with the introduction of the new forms and barcodes etc - easier to see what is there and what is not.
So - I would not risk it... also because now the VO can also decide to extend the medicals if that's the only thing missing to issue the visa and it has been done in less than 15 months... so the best thing to do is to wait until the last minute to get the medicals done (right before you send off your application) as it is valid for 12 months.
Good luck,
Sweden

Thanks all for the advice.

We are planning exactly that, to wait until we have everything else ready to go, to do the medical exam right before turning it all in...we are getting close to that point, finally!
