When does the count start?

Hi, if someone could help me clear this up.

Regarding application processing time stated on Canadian gov website for the country - for Russia it says 8 months.

I was approved as sponsor and received confirmation on OCT 15 2010.

My wife received an e-letter with a FILE NUMBER on Jan 26 2011 from Moscow office. (This is to confirm that we have received your application for permanent residence in Canada.)

(status check website says that her application was received on Oct 26)


So when does that 8 month count down actually start? Because between 2 dates shown there's 3 month gap.

It's from the date they receive the application at the visa office. So you're looking at 8 months from October 26th! So June 26th (if my count is correct)..

I was trying to figure if it's worth time-wise to try to get her to visit me in Canada as a visitor.

Well, it looks like it may not be worth it! If all goes smoothly, she'll be landed in 3.5 months.
