I have an Indian passport. I am planning a trip to India in fall 2018 (Oct-ish timeframe).
Citizenship status: waiting on AOR. Here are the post-citizenship timelines as I understand (correct me if I am wrong).
A) Oath ceremony - citizenship certificate - say Day 0
B) Canada passport - 2 weeks
C) Passport surrender - 2-3 weeks
D) OCI Booklet - 6-8 weeks
Considering buffers, the whole thing is 3 months...
Of course, I have the option of getting a Indian short term tourist visa. (I'll keep that option in my back pocket).
Here is my question -
When can I not travel with an Indian passport without incurring fine. Is it at A) when I get my citizenship certificate or B) when I get Canadian passport? or something else?
Considering I have to submit original Canadian passport for OCI, what sort of a buffer should be kept? I understand that once I apply for OCI, I wont be then able to cancel it mid-way?
