My husband is in Canada on a TRV that expires April 1. When do we have to start applying to extend it while we wait on his PRV and where do we find the info we need in order to do that?

I applied for extension 30 days before my stay expired.

All the informations I needed I found here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

I know it says to apply at least 30 days be4 ur current TRV expires, but can one send out sponsorship application, TRV extension application and open work permit application AT D SAME TIME? Since its obvious that u r going to need d last two anyways...

I just tried to fill out my husband's application to extend his TRV online. Couple of questions.
His passport expires in july 2010. Can he get a new passport while in Canada?
They want proof of his income. But he is on a TRV so it is illegal to work. I support him. Do I just provide them with proof of my earnings?

If he needs a new passport while in Canada, he will have to deal with his home country embassy. They should be able to do it.

Include a proof of your earnings and a letter stating that you are supporting him.

I assume a recent paystub is all that would be required to prove earnings, or would they need more proof?

if you are applying inland - yes, you can do it, but I guess it needs to go to different departments.

recent paystubs (upto 6 minths) can be definitely enough, you can add a letter from employer too, but I think paystubs can just be enough.

It's actually advised to send TRV extension, request for open work permit upon first stage approval as well as the sponsorship/PR application all in one package for inland. They all go to Vegreville, not sure about different departments but I'd go with the mailing address of the PR application if they are different.

Sending it all in one package will ensure that they are tied together so you will not end up getting visit status extension refused because they know you are applying inland and there will be no delay in your open work permit when you get first stage approval.
