Hello.

I am a Permanent Resident in Canada and 'landed' on the 24th of April, 2013. I am just wondering when I should start looking at citizenship. I had heard someone that we now have to wait 4 years instead of 3?

Why don't you go find that out on CIC's website? Hearsay is never reliable.

Probably 23 April 2017. To make sure wait for the new law C-24 to pass. If it's approved then you 'll have to be in Canada 4 years before you apply for citizenship. For now just make sure you collect all documents that you may need.(expired passport, leases, bills) and make sure you visit your doctor once in a while to have a record.

I did look on their website, I was just wanting to hear other people's opinions.

Hi
I wish I've read this forum before applying for my citizenship beside just reading cic web site, I could have done it better, I only followed the cic web site for that and I worried for no reason, my point is, here we can share and discuses more, and always I see people have many nice advice and help each other, which is very nice too.

back to your question, you need to follow the news about the new bill, your case depends on new bill, by new law you have to be in Canada 4 of 6 instead of 3 of 4 years.

it's good to try not being unemployed , being busy with work, study here.
also collect all you bills ( phone, internet, ...).

good luck

When you want to start "thinking" about it really depends on you and your needs. I know people who have remained a PR for decades without ever looking to be a citizen (usually because they are from countries that do not allow dual citizenship and they wish to keep their original citizenship). if you are looking for Canadian Citizenship ASAP, then you must start thinking of it NOW. That means carefully documenting all travel outside of Canada and keeping track of your RO days.

You know the best part is the people who are already pr and who will be affected by this new law no one cares about it

now its like the law would be passed by summer break

Can any one say a heard guess what this means in the cic website that the amendment would be on 2014 or 2015 ?

does it mean it would be passed on 2015 with the amendment lemme give the link :

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/acts-regulations/forward-regulatory-plan/citreform.asp

And honestly does everyone think it will be passed without the amendments ? after what is written in the cic website and do u guys think that it will be effective for everyone the person who already stayed 3 years before is about to apply and doom the law is effect alas!! 1more year have to fill up is it so tough like that ??

Thanks
