Hello guys,

I heard that you can apply for health card before you do landing and before you actually receive the PR card. When exactly (after which step) can you apply for a health card (ontario health card, OHIP)?

Thanks in advance!

No - you can't apply before you land.

Ontario has a three months waiting period before you qualify for OHIP.

You can apply for the OHIP card right after you land, however you won't receive it until three months after you land.

Note that you may qualify for health coverage under other grounds - e.g., if you have a work permit. The rules also vary by province but no province gives you health care before you are in the province.

I am pretty sure this may be possible. I will check with Service Ontario, and I will update the forum.

Thanks for your reply!

Thanks a lot! I am aware of the work permit condition, but it does not apply to me.

I think Service Ontario can issue OHIP card if they are SURE that you are going to land, but it is just a matter of time.
I will double check and update you guys
