I came to Canada a few months ago on a NAFTA visa (closed work permit). Long story short, I hate my job, and want to begin searching for a new one. Unfortunately, I've discovered that it's very hard to get companies to sponsor you (even with ow easy an BOWP is) so I am looking into a BOWP.

Even before I came to Canada, I had started the EE process. Based on timing, I expect to receive an AOR from OINP in the next few days. Is that enough for a BOWP to be granted? I've seen some things say yes, but others claim I need to actually wait for the nomination. Or do I need to wait for CIC's (not OINP's) AOR? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/work/prov/bridging.asp talks about it, but in some cases says AOR, and in some cases mentions needing the nomination letter, so I am confused.

Does applying for the BOWP invalidate my existing (closed) work permit at all - or even if the BOWP is denied, would my original work permit be intact for it's duration?

To be eligible for BOWP you need to apply for PR (not for province nomination). "Applied for PR" means you actually submitted application for PR (not just registered in EE pool), received AOR and your application has passed completeness check. Nomination letter is required if you applied for PR through PNP program and not through EE.
